Cabin baggage: the size and weight allowed, airline by airline

On most low-cost airlines, only a small bag that fits under the seat is included in the ticket. The wheeled case that goes in the overhead locker is often an extra you pay for. Here is, airline by airline, what is included and what is not, with a link to the official page where we took each figure.

Figures taken on 5 November 2026 from the airlines' official pages (links in the table). Airlines change their rules and fare names regularly: read the airline's page and your ticket conditions again before you travel.

The small under-seat bag: almost the same size everywhere

Ryanair, Wizz Air, Transavia, Vueling and TUI fly use the same limit: 40 × 30 × 20 cm. easyJet is a little larger, at 45 × 36 × 20 cm. A 40 × 30 × 20 cm backpack or laptop bag therefore works on all of these airlines. The weight differs: 10 kg at Wizz Air and Transavia, 15 kg at easyJet; Ryanair's page gives none.

The cabin bag: almost always an extra

Limits for the large cabin bag are close but not identical: 55 × 40 × 20 cm at Ryanair, Vueling and TUI fly, 55 × 40 × 23 cm at Wizz Air and Brussels Airlines, 55 × 40 × 25 cm at Transavia and 56 × 45 × 25 cm at easyJet. A 55 × 40 × 20 cm case weighing 8 kg or less therefore meets all seven limits. But on most of these airlines, that bag is only included in the dearer fares, or bought separately.

Four precautions that avoid a bad surprise

And to pay less for the ticket itself?

Baggage is only part of the price. Our guide when to book a cheap flight explains how to recognise a good price, and the page cheap flights from Brussels and Charleroi gives the usual price of each destination from our price checks.

Frequently asked questions

What bag size works on all these airlines?

Under the seat, a 40 × 30 × 20 cm bag meets the limit of every airline in this table that states one (easyJet accepts up to 45 × 36 × 20 cm). For the overhead locker, a 55 × 40 × 20 cm case weighing 8 kg or less meets all seven limits, but that bag is usually a paid option.

Is a cabin bag included in a Ryanair ticket?

No. Every Ryanair fare includes a small 40 × 30 × 20 cm bag that must fit under the seat. The 10 kg bag (55 × 40 × 20 cm) stored overhead comes with the “Priority & 2 Cabin Bags” option.

How much can a cabin bag weigh on easyJet?

Up to 15 kg, for the small under-seat bag (45 × 36 × 20 cm) as well as the large cabin bag (56 × 45 × 25 cm), as long as you can lift and carry it yourself.
